What is Dysprosium(III) iodide?

Dysprosium(III) iodide
CAS:15474-63-2
Molecular formula: DyI3
Molecular Weight: 543.21g/mol
Synonyms: Dysprosium(III) iodide; Dysprosium iodide anhydrous; Dysprosium triiodide;
Dysprosium(III) iodide is insoluble in water, and is often used in the synthesis of fine chemicals, and as a heat and light stabilzer for nylon fabrics. Dysprosium Iodide is generally immediately available in most volumes. High purity, submicron and nanopowder forms may be considered.Iodide compounds are used in internal medicine. Treating an iodide with manganese dioxide and sulfuric acid sublimes the iodine.
Dysprosium is a Block F, Group 3, Period 6 element. The number of electrons in each of Dysprosium's shells is 2, 8, 18, 28, 8, 2 and its electronic configuration is [Xe] 4f10 6s2. In its elemental form dysprosium's CAS number is 7429-91-6. The dysprosium atom has a radius of 175.2.pm and it's Van der Waals radius is unknown. Dysprosium is moderately toxic. Dysprosium is most commonly used in neodymium-iron-boron high strength permanent magnets. Dysprosium is available as metal and compounds with purities from 99% to 99.999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity); metals in the form of foil, sputtering target, and rod, and compounds as submicron and nanopowder.
